Procedure to Follow if your son is to receive ANY Prescription or Non-Prescription Medication, medicine or any other pharmaceutical or other drug-based-product during the ACADEMIC DAY (7:45 am – 2:45 pm) for a DAY STUDENT or ANY TIME for our RESIDENT (BOARDING) STUDENT POPULATION:
NO MEDICATION is to be brought to the ORCHARD LAKE SCHOOLS CAMPUS by a student unless Prior Approval and Strict Adherence to the said policy are in place.
NO STUDENT, day or boarding, is to consume/ingest any medicinal product at St. Mary's unless the following COMMUNICATION STEPS are in Place.
A parent or guardian must call the School Nurse at 248.683.0539 (Mrs. Loretta Orzech) to both approve and advise the School Nurse of the situation. The School Nurse will a) generate a WRITTEN RECORD of the MEDICATION, DOSAGE and OTHER DIRECTIONS. b) store the medicine in her LOCKED and SECURED CABINET in the Kolbe Hall NURSE's OFFICE.; and c) disseminate and observe the proper ingestion of the medicine while present and in the company of the student.
The School Nurse will also inform the DEAN OF STUDENTS in the case of a day student and the DEAN OF STUDENTS and DEAN OF RESIDENT STUDENTS if a Boarding Student.
Again, NO MEDICATION is to be brought to St. Mary's Preparatory School unless the aforementioned POLICY has been followed.
The SCHOOL NURSE is the ONLY staff member that is to store and/or distribute medication to DAY students at St. Mary's Preparatory.
A BOARDING student may receive PRESCRIBED ONLY medication from the Dean of Resident Students only after having obtained PRIOR WRITTEN CONSENT from the student's PARENT(s)/GUARDIAN(s) and the proper education with respect to ingestion from the SCHOOL NURSE.
Failure to comply with this policy will result in disciplinary and administrative action and a mandated and immediate parent conference.

According to State Department of Education Legislation, the only staff member at OLSM who can legally dispense ANY prescription or non-prescription medication to ANY student for ANY reason
